I'd like, just for a moment to be sappy...and post lyrics to two great Cole Porter songs -- In The Still of the Night and Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye. I first heard both songs back in my I'm-obsessed-with-Phantom of the Opera days. Michael Crawford sang these songs in his Songs From the Stage & Screen album back in the '90s and I immediately connected to them and found an even greater appreciation for them after seeing De-Lovely. However, since Crawford's versions are the ones I heard most often, I can't help but almost prefer hearing him sing them vs. anyone else...yes, I admitted that publicly. Tianyi told me I'd like De-Lovely and would appreciate Cole Porter even more after seeing the film and she was right.
I've always been partial to the Gershwins & Irving Berlin, but I certainly do know how to appreciate good Cole Porter.
In The Still of the Night
~Cole Porter
In the still of the night
As I gaze from my window
At the moon in its flight
My thoughts all stray to you
In the still of the night
All the world is in slumber
All the times without number
Darling when I say to you
Do you love me, as I love you
Are you my life to be, my dream come true
Or will this dream of mine fade out of sight
Like the moon growing dim, on the rim of the hill
In the chill, still, of the night
Like the moon growing dim, on the rim of the hill
In the chill, still, of the night

Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye
~Cole Porter
Ev'ry time we say goodbye, I die a little,
Ev'ry time we say goodbye, I wonder why a little,
Why the Gods above me, who must be in the know.
Think so little of me, they allow you to go.
When you're near, there's such an air of spring about it,
I can hear a lark somewhere, begin to sing about it,
There's no love song finer, but how strange the change from major to
minor,
Ev'rytime we say goodbye.
When you're near, there's such an air of spring about it,
I can hear a lark somewhere, begin to sing about it,
There's no love song finer, but how strange the change from major to
minor,
Ev'ry time we say goodbye.

I find it highly amusing that you refer to him as Micahel Craword, especially since I am not a fan. =P
I'm curious about how you feel about Rebecca Luker's Cole Porter CD. I really like a lot of the arrangements on that album, especially Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye.
Hahaha, oops (at least I was consistent and referred to him incorrectly each time)!
Well, Rebecca Luker's CD is what first drew me to those recordings. Needless to say, I haven't listened to that album in several, several years.
